Install Ubuntu 18.04 along Windows 10 on Dell Inspiron 3xxx

This is a log of my efforts to install Ubuntu 18.04 along Win10 on a Dell laptop.

It doesn't serve as a guide but more as a debugging log.

It started easy. Burn an ISO image using Rufus. Remember to select GPT (not MBR as the default) on later computer models.

Partitioning the hard drive following the steps in https://itsfoss.com/install-ubuntu-1404-dual-boot-mode-windows-8-81-uefi/ .(Same as many other guides, no issues).

In the process, I have disabled BitLocker (at Windows search, type bitlocker and Turn Off encryption. This may take awhile depending on the number of files on the hard drive).

I also disabled Secure Boot. This is done in BIOS menu. It can be accessed at start-up by pressing F12->BIOS->Secure Boot.

If Secure Boot is deactivated but BitLocker remained on, the Windows booting sequence will halt and ask for Recovery Key. I didn't give it the key as I was afraid it might reactivate the functionalities that I just disabled.

 The first major problem is that there is no option to boot from a USB stick at the boot menu (after pressing F12).

The names of the files in Step 5 are different for me. I tried both the file with all capitalized names worked for me. Also I had to make sure that it did not have Secure Boot.

The second major problem is that the installer cannot access the partition I recently created. An identical image is seen in the question here:

The solution is to follow the second approach in the first answer exactly as the post suggested.

Now we can return to the steps in https://itsfoss.com/install-ubuntu-1404-dual-boot-mode-windows-8-81-uefi/ to finish the installation.

The last difference in my installation is that the default ubuntu booting option doesn't work. It leads to some kind of system recovery assistant because it can't find the boot files. So I again created a booting option manually, just like the steps in https://askubuntu.com/questions/726938/how-to-boot-from-a-usb-in-uefi-mode-on-a-dell-inspiron#, except that in Step 5.3, I chose another partition instead of FS0 and tried a booting file in the EFI directory. I think I selected the one starting with sh* since it is secure boot. 

I have not changed any settings in Windows back to what they were. So far my system hasn't crashed yet. I will follow up if I receive any surprises.

折子戏

 闹腾了几年的读书希望可以画个圈圈了

其实遗憾自然是有很多的

从一开始决定来读，到中间碌碌无为地乱撞，都让自己大跌眼镜

中间积攒的恶心，也千万不能带到接下来的工作中去了。

另外去年10月1号开始玩了个类似龙将的网游，竟然还不知不觉充了150刀进去，也是刚开始没有想到的。游戏的各种竞争机制设计的不错，不断吸引玩家砸钱竞技。

本来想慢慢当成养成类游戏来玩，认识了一些比我还热情的同胞，一起上头了一个月，春节后两个突然觉悟退坑了，带着我一起退，可惜我退的并不坚决，从周一开始，硬是拖到了保护费过期的周四。一半是战友离开的伤感，一半也是早该敲打的理智。

最近还开始关心一些理财，买了基金，就一泻千里，不过数目不大，就那样吧。

想想接下来会轻松几周，其实之前总觉得新技术自己还是应该学起来，还有新工具，所以也不能太松懈。

这个月还把《大宅门》、《倚天屠龙记》和《尘埃落定》都速刷了一遍，被二傻子少爷迷住了。

The O.C. S01E01 赏析

【剧情梗概】Ryan在哥哥Trey的带领下偷车被拘留，之后被酗酒的母亲赶出家门，被公诉人Sandy接回位于Newport富人区的家中暂住一个周末，结识了Cohen一家以及邻居妙龄少女Marissa，并被Marissa邀请出席她组织的慈善时装秀。翌日时装秀后Ryan和Cohen家独子Seth被邀请去朋友家开派对，Ryan为Seth两肋插刀却导致两人都被拳打脚踢。Sandy的妻子Kirsten将儿子被霸凌的遭遇迁怒于Ryan。Sandy尝试说服无果，不得已将Ryan带回他母亲家，未想其母已经举家搬迁，抛弃儿子。Sandy不忍，决心将Ryan先暂时接回家中，再做计议。
【细节赏析】本集中有几个细节非常有意思，把人物刻画地非常生动。
1. Sandy把Ryan第一次带回家时并没有经过妻子Kirsten的同意，于是在家门口让Ryan等在车上，自己先进门去和妻子沟通。此时Sandy已经将钥匙拔出，却突然犹豫片刻。Ryan发话"it's not fun if the key is in the car." ，呼应他因为偷车而入狱的前科。显然Ryan对于外人对他做出提防是有心里准备的。但同时Sandy从此刻开始也愿意相信这个孩子，便将钥匙又插回到了车里。从后面的剧情可以看出Ryan无法信任自己家人，但是却能得到Sandy始终与一的信任，这或许也是他能迎接新生的可能。
2. Marissa与Ryan第一次见面就对这个坏男孩产生的兴趣，Ryan也将自己的身世对Marissa说得清楚明白。Marissa将信将疑时，Sandy走出来接Ryan，为了维护Ryan自尊，Marissa非常机智得体地描述到她已经和Ryan这位刚从Boston来的Sandy的侄子见过面。Marissa对他人的empathy在之后的剧情中也有体现，这也比较符合她圣母的人设。
3.Kirsten起初不太能立刻接受Sandy接了个陌生且有前科的孩子回家过夜的消息。所以做出决定之后的第一句台词是"To put my jewelry in the vault"。这句话其实是符合此时观众对这位女主人的预期的。但紧接着Kirsten补充到"where do you think I'm going? The boy is going to need fresh sheets and towels..." 这样的处理让观众瞬间感觉到这个人物的真实、立体。她并没有完全接受这个新客人，但她愿意支持丈夫的决定。同时也让人觉得她内心的善良，预示着后面她作为Ryan母亲的角色。
4. Seth对同龄女孩Summer的相思通过他的帆船已经给观众做好了铺垫。两人的故事将呼之欲出。
5. Marissa开门回绝的父亲的访客，而其父亲Jimmy其实就在家中。隐隐中观众能猜出他的父亲可能已经身陷囹圄。门后面并不是表面的现象，这样的手法后面的剧情也会反复出现。
6. Sandy为Ryan打领带可算作是二人第一次平心交流。Sandy显然对于Seth的个性能不能与Ryan相处是不确定的，从这里Ryan并给出一个私以为比较应付、中性的回答“He's cool.”。但是Sandy很cool的一点就在于不会穷追猛打，而是对于晚辈点到而止，知道至少现在需要给Ryan一些个人空间。
7. 这集中还为之后的许多人物关系埋下了伏笔，包括Jimmy遛狗时与Kirsten的交谈，Luke在派对上和其他女孩的搭讪，
【不足之处】
1.对于Jimmy即将遭受的经济危机着墨过多。除了他闭门谢客以外，在时装秀上他对于女儿的巨大面露难色，甚至夸张到需要去洗手间里发泄情绪。当然塑造了Cooper家山雨欲来的情形，但给出的伏笔太多，就给观众一种便秘的不通畅感。
2.Ryan将醉酒的Marissa抬进自家让她入睡，第二天她却早早酒醒神秘消失。逻辑上不太通顺。换种处理是Ryan在楼下查看Marissa时被他人发现，误以为他在偷窃或是玷污女孩，加剧Ryan与Newport社区的矛盾。
